Minden — Adams County Christian didn’t need any extra motivation in their game against Glenbrook.

The Rebels (6-1) knew they had a chance to avenge last year’s playoff loss with a statement win Friday, and they got it, 54-6.

“It is always good to avenge somebody that puts you out,” said ACCS defensive coordinator Richy Spears. “That was one of the motivating tools for this game, and we told the kids that before the game.”

ACCS piled on a huge first half lead, but Spears said he didn’t think the Rebels played to their full potential.

“We came out a bit sluggish in the first half, but the first couple of series in the second half we played better,” Spears said.

If leading 35-6 at halftime is sluggish, teams may be in for a long night if ACCS is on the schedule.

Torrey Smith scored both first quarter touchdowns for the Rebels on runs of 52 and 17 yards.

Trey Fleming pushed the lead to 21-0 in the second quarter on a seven yard run.

Lester Wells then added a pair of touchdown runs from 14 and 39 yards to pretty much seal the game.

Glenbrook’s only score of the game came in the second quarter on a five yard touchdown pass.

ACCS scored twice in the third quarter. First, quarterback Carlos Woods found Parker Rymer from eight yards out. Then Chisum Mardis rumbled in from 27 yards.

Cole Melton had the final touchdown of the night, which happened to be on the last play of the game, a 78-yard touchdown run.

Smith and Wells led a ground game by ACCS that ran right through Glenbrook’s anemic defense to the tune of 319 total yards.

Defensively, ACCS had its way with Glenbrook for most of the game. The Apaches were held to six first downs and 100 yards of total offense. The Rebels’ defense also forced four turnovers.

The game was also a good chance for ACCS coaches to look at some of their younger talent, Spears said.

“Everybody got on the field tonight,” he said. “It is always good to see. We got to see some kids coming back from injury, and it is always good to see the young ones play. That is who we will depend upon next year.”

The Rebels are currently on a four-game win streak, but Spears doesn’t want the Rebels to let off the gas.

“We want to get better each and every day,” he said. “We don’t need to regress any. I feel like we were ready to get back out there tonight especially after last week’s game being cancelled.”

ACCS returns to MAIS District 5-AA action at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts Amite School Center for homecoming.
