Ferriday — A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place in Ferriday Saturday to raise funds for the United Hands Youth Afterschool Program.
The organization needs funds to continue serving children under 18 two meals a day. That’s something president Brady Fields believes he can get done through a local tournament.
“We love providing for these kids, but our problem is getting things started,” Fields said. “That’s why we thought it was a good idea to have this tournament and invite locals of all ages to come out and participate.”
Fields said the organization has fed 70-plus kids since it began in June.
The fundraising tournament will take place at the old seventh grade gym in Ferriday on Florida Avenue, and will begin at 10 a.m. Admission will be $5, and those interested in participating will pay $25 per team. The winner of the tournament will take home a $100 prize.
To sign up, contact Fields at 318-758-0857, or call Earl Banks at 318-719-1742.
The Doty Road Community Center will sponsor a car wash to support the United Hands Youth Afterschool Program the same day, offering car washes for $10 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
