NATCHEZ — Homecoming week can be a nightmare for some coaches, but Trinity head coach Zach Rogel isn’t worried.

“When it comes time for football, even though we are young, I feel like we are pretty mature on the field,” he said. “Once we walk onto the field, the guys know it is time for football. We’ll get done with what we need to get done with, then they can go enjoy their homecoming.”

What Trinity (3-2) will have to get done with is a struggling Bowling Green team that is sitting at 1-4. However, Rogel and his team aren’t looking past the Buccaneers.

“They are a solid ball club and have a lot of seniors,” Rogel said. “They’ve got us by about eight kids, so they’ve got more depth. Only about four or five of them play both ways as opposed to 10 for us, so we’ve got to get out there, be in better shape and continue working hard.”

Bowling Green enters the game off a 38-6 loss against Silliman Institute, but believes they can hang around with the Saints.

“I don’t know a lot about them, but I know they were really good last year,” said Bowling Green head coach David Currier. “They don’t seem quite as stout, but they are still good, explosive and have a lot of speed.”

A lot of that speed will be coming from Trinity quarterback Kevontaye Caston, who has definitely caught the attention of Currier.

“We’ll have our hands full containing their quarterback,” he said. “He will run and he can improvise well, too.”

Trinity is coming off a 38-6 win against Prairie View and is on the way to turning around a season that started 0-2.

“We don’t want to get complacent,” Rogel said. “We put every week behind us after it is over, and we come out on Monday. We feel better each week, but we approach every game like we have a 0-0 record.”

Trinity’s homecoming game against Bowling Green is set for 7 p.m.
