NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School will honor veterans and military at its annual military appreciation night Friday at Bobby Marks Stadium.
Veterans from all wars, and current military members, are invited to attend, ACCS instructor Leigh Ann Mason said.
“This is something we try and do special for all of our military members and veterans in the area as a way to recognize them,” Mason said.
Prior to the game veterans will be honored for their service with a variety of patriotic activities.
Veterans are invited to a light refreshment reception beginning at 5:45 p.m. near the stadium.
ACCS players will wear special camouflage uniforms for the event, and members of the Air-Evac Life-team will fly in the game ball.
“I was raised by a man who loves his country, and I respect that flag every time that song comes on,” ACCS headmaster and head football coach David King said. “I don’t know what anybody else in the stadium is doing, but when I’m listening to those words I’m looking at that flag, and I’m honestly seeing guys fighting for our country. I’ve been doing that since I played T-ball.”
After a tough 56-44 loss to Centreville, Adams County Christian School will look to get back on track against Central Private, Friday.
“I hope so,” said ACCS head coach David King of his team putting the loss in the past. “Every team has its own personality, and this team is a little more loose than teams I’ve coached in the past, which can be a good thing.”
It will be a new look Central Private team coming to Natchez under first-year head coach Joey Sanchez, who has already led the Rebels (1-2) to more wins than they had last year.
“We’ve been watching film on them and it seems like they are better this year and fundamentally sound,” King said. “They are basic in what they do, and they do it fairly well. We’ve got more speed than they do, so hopefully we can use that to our advantage.”
ACCS has plenty of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, but one looming question is if they will settle on one man under center. King doesn’t believe so.
“We are going to play three guys at quarterback,” he said. “We are going to do things for Trey (Fleming) as well. I don’t like to get caught with only having one quarterback. Tyler (Stockstill) and Carlos (Woods) have done well, and Trey will be a big part, too.”
Woods had a big game against Centreville, throwing for 212 yards and four touchdowns, while Fleming rushed for 97 yards and had 100 yards receiving.
Central Private enters the game off a 20-7 loss to Trinity.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
