Adams County Circuit Court Cases

Tuesday, Aug. 26

Jesse Demetrus Penton pleaded guilty to sexual battery (Count I through Count IV) in Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson’s court. Sentenced to 15 years on each count, to run concurrent, for a total of 15 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Further, said sentence shall run concurrent, prospectively from this day forward to any sentence the defendant is currently serving. Must pay all court costs and fees as well as a $200 prosecution fee. Count V (exploitation of a child) is dismissed.

Friday, Aug. 22

Charles Connis Davis pleaded guilty to sale of a schedule II controlled substance, cocaine, (Count I) in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to 10 years in MDOC. Full credit received for time served as allowed by law. Must pay all court costs and fees as well as a $200 prosecution fee. Count II (possession of a schedule II controlled substance, cocaine, with intent to distribute) is dismissed.

Kevveonta Lashawn Short pleaded guilty to possession of a schedule II controlled substance, cocaine, in an amount greater than 0.1 grams, but less than 2 grams, in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to three years in MDOC, with the court retaining jurisdiction for one year from placement of the defendant into the Regimented Inmate Discipline (RID) program with MDOC. Must pay all court costs and fees as well as a $200 prosecution fee.

Wednesday, Aug. 20

Deonice Mentrell Jones pleaded guilty to grand larceny in an amount being more than $1,000, but less than $5,000 in Johnson’s court. Sentenced to five years at MDOC suspended under the following terms and conditions: (1) The defendant’s future good behavior; (2) That the defendant violate no laws, state or federal; and (3) payment in full of any and all court-ordered restitution ($1,070), fines, court costs and fees (prosecution fee of $200), including reporting to the court and appearing before the court as directed, concerning the status of such payment. Defendant is ordered to pay all court-ordered amounts no later than Monday, Nov. 3.

Natchez Municipal Court Cases 
Wednesday, Aug. 27

Curtis Sanders pleaded guilty to trespassing. Sentenced to 20 days in jail. Sanders also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct — failure to comply with officer. Sentenced to 20 days in jail.

Friday, Aug. 29

Cedric Knight, 25, pleaded guilty to public drunkenness. Sentenced to 10 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Fine set at $323 minus $223 credit for time served. Must pay a fine of $100.

Ronnie Thompson, 24, pleaded guilty to willful trespassing. Sentenced to 10 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Fine set at $323.

Terrence Smith, 43, pleaded guilty to shoplifting — first offense. Sentenced to 30 days with 26 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Credit for four days served. Banned from Circle K. Fine set at $573 minus $100 credit. Must pay a fine of $473.

Wednesday, Sept. 3

Jerome Harris, 21, charged with possession of a controlled substance. Case dismissed — officers failed to appear.

Willard Sims Jr., 34, found guilty of possession of a controlled substance. Driver’s license suspended for six months. Fine set at $543.

Elijah Kendrick Hoggatt, 39, found guilty of misdemeanor false pretense. Sentenced to 30 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Total fine set at $463.

Nathaniel Myles, 55, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false pretense. Sentenced to 30 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Total fine set at $496.42.

Shatoria Green, 23, pleaded guilty to shoplifting — first offense. Sentenced to 30 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Banned from Walmart. Fine set at $573.

Keith Jerome Taylor, 23, pleaded guilty to shoplifting — first offense. Sentenced to 30 days suspended for one year pending good behavior. Banned from Walmart. Fine set at $573.

Brenda Carol Smith, 55, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident with property damage to attended vehicle. Fine set at $284.
