NATCHEZ — Bad economy or not, residents of the Miss-Lou have plenty for which to be thankful.
And ministers on both sides of the river want to give all community members a chance to come together and share in that thanks.
Both the Natchez and the Vidalia ministerial alliances have organized community thanksgiving services for Tuesday.
The Concordia Parish service will start at 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Church in Vidalia. Anyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
In Natchez, the community will gather at noon at the Jefferson Street United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.
The public is invited to attend and bring a canned good for the church’s food pantry. An offering plate will be passed to collect money for Catholic Charities.
The Rev. Darian Duckworth, who helped organize the event, said the alliance hopes to see a good crowd at the event’s new lunch time service.
“We are trying something new, and hopefully we are going to bring in a number of people from the business community and local families,” she said.
A community-wide Thanksgiving service has been around in Natchez since at least 1986.
