WOODVILLE — Led by Desmond Hunter, Travion Jones and Lamar Jackson, the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats rolled to a 38-16 win over the Amite County High School Trojans Friday night.

Hunter completed 14 of 25 passes for 123 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. All three of those TD passes went to Jones, who finished with 102 yards on seven receptions. Jackson had 13 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

As a team, the Wildcats had 11 first downs and 351 yards of total offense.

“We put some things together. It was a good win,” Wilkinson County head coach Kenneth Brown said. “We’re still making mistakes, but we can correct them. We felt like we could get this one. Nothing comes easy, especially against our arch rival.”

The Wildcats kept the Trojans out of the end zone until the fourth quarter. But by then, the Wildcats had a commanding 25-0 lead early in the final quarter.

“We did some things well defensively,” Brown said.

Among those on that side of the ball who had a big game was Khan Jarvis, who had seven tackles, one sack, a blocked punt and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

As for Hunter’s performance, Brown said, “He’s showing steady improvement. Just trying to be a leader. We’ve got to work on protection. Receivers caught the ball well tonight.”

The fourth quarter saw both teams score almost at will. The Wildcats managed to outscore the Trojans 19-16. Amite County was held to just four first downs and lost two fumbles.

Wilkinson County (1-2) will have a short week to get ready for a road game against Forest Hill at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
