NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Wanda Fay Hamilton Dukes, 85, of Garland, Texas, who died July 29, 2014, will be at 6 p.m. today in the old sanctuary at Community Chapel Church of God in Natchez with the Rev. Bo Swilley officiating.
Mrs. Dukes was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Wylie, Texas, the daughter of William L. and Emma Maybell Hamilton.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Dukes always put others before herself. She was a lifelong member of the Wylie Church of Christ. She retired from the U.S. Post Office in Dallas.
Mrs. Dukes was the sign language interpreter for Eastland College in Dallas. She helped people that were deaf by taking them to the doctor and other appointments. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, watching her Dallas Cowboys play football, and most of all, reading her Bible. She read it all the time.
Mrs. Dukes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace “Buddy” Dukes; one son, Danny Travis Snell; one granddaughter, Melissa Kay Rubenacker; one great-granddaughter, Ally Michelle Snell; one sister, Jean Pelton; and one brother, William Hamilton Jr.
Survivors include one son, Charles David Snell of Garland; three stepdaughters, Rhonda Bunch, Gerri Perry and Terri Thomas, all of Natchez; a granddaughter, Jessica Snell; a special great-grandson, who always lived with her, Travis Snell of Garland, 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Seals of Midland, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
