NATCHEZ — Get on up with a bowl of jambalaya and root for your favorite high school team all this weekend in the Miss-Lou.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the rest of the week and into the weekend with temperatures hitting the 90s most days.

United Way cook-off

The 10th annual United Way jambalaya cook-off fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Natchez Convention Center.

This year’s theme is “Get On Up” based on the James Brown biographical movie directed by Mississippian Tate Taylor and filmed in Natchez and the surrounding areas.

Teams will compete for first, second and third-place awards for the jambalaya competition and a spirit award for the best-decorated team booth.

Groups of guest judges will score the jambalaya platters on overall appearance, texture of rice and overall taste.

A donation of $7 includes a jambalaya plate with salad, roll, dessert and a drink.

Jambalaya sampling cups can be purchased for $1.

The cook-off is a kickoff to the 2014 United Way Community Investment Pledge Drive, a three-month fundraising campaign.

The United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou supports 13 local agencies. The goal of the organization is to provide a central agency that individuals and businesses can support which then provides funding for a variety of worthy causes.

Friday night football

Football season continues in the Miss-Lou Friday night with Adams County Christian School hosting River Oaks, Trinity Episcopal Day School hosting Centreville, Jefferson County High School hosting Natchez High School and Franklin County High School hosting North Pike.

River City AutoFest

A car, truck, ATV and bike show will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Vidalia Amphitheater.

The event is free and open to the public.

Those participating must pay a registration fee per vehicle.

A concert will follow the show. Tickets for the concert are $10.

Kitten adoption

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a kitten adoption day from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Natchez Mall near the theater entrance.

The price to adopt two kittens, $35, includes spaying and neutering.
