NATCHEZ — Forrest Foster officially resigned Wednesday as head softball coach for Adams County Christian School.
Foster coached the Lady Rebels for the last 11 years and said his reasons for resigning were a culmination of things, but ultimately, it’s a decision he won’t regret.
“It was time,” Foster said. “The job was time consuming, and I’ll leave it at that. I’m resigning from all my duties at ACCS.”
Foster said he loved coaching the players, but ultimately, he reflected on some advice his father gave him 23 years ago.
“He said, ‘son, I want you to understand something about coaching, you need to understand it is a poor parent that cannot see the full abilities of their children,’” Foster said. “People have blinders on about their children when it comes to sports. It’s so important for parents to realize this.”
Headmaster David King said the school would respect Foster’s decision to resign, but hopes Foster will continue to be the announcer for ACCS’ sporting events.
“Forrest is a classy guy and a friend of mine,” King said. “He was going to be the coach here as long as he wanted to. We’re still in talks with him on continuing being the voice of the Rebels.”
Foster went 0-16 in his first year coaching the Lady Rebels, but Foster slowly built the new program to sixth in the state last year. At one time this season, ACCS was ranked fourth in the state.
Athletic director Rick Fife will take over coaching duties for the Lady Rebels for the remainder of the season.
“Fife has experience coaching softball, and we have a great softball team here for him to contribute to,” King said.
