NATCHEZ — Services for Janice F. Davis, 60, of Natchez, who died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in Natchez, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Cade officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today, with a “Celebration of Life” wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Ms. Davis was born Nov. 18. 1953, in Natchez, the daughter of Millert Briggs and Flora Mae Bowie Jones.
Janice was a 1971 graduate of North Natchez High School. She received an associate degree from Copiah-Lincoln Community College, a bachelor of science in education and a master’s degree, both from Alcorn State University.
Janice was a teacher at Natchez-Adams School District. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. She was also a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the National Educators Association.
Janice was a fan of the New Orleans Saints and enjoyed working in the yard, dancing, traveling, teaching and sports.
She was preceded in death by her father; grandmother, Worree Bowie; and one sister, Johnetta Harris Thomas.
Survivors include her mother; two sons, Steven D. Davis and KeSean M. Davis; one daughter, Janice F. Davis II; four brothers, Dennis Davis Sr., Maurice Davis Sr. and wife, Diane, Theodore Davis Sr., and Henry Lee Harris; three sisters, Flora Davis Villere and husband, Harold Jr., Melinda Bowie Davis and Jessie Harris Lewis and husband, Willie; one granddaughter, Kiera Jones; one great-granddaughter, Haylie K. Benn; eight nephews; five nieces; best friend, Bessie Bradley; close family friend, Dr. Benny A. Wright; and other relatives and friends.
