Area under tornado watch until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service forecasters believe the Miss-Lou may experience severe weather, potentially life-threatening weather this afternoon and into the evening.

Storms producing damaging winds of near-hurricane force winds are possible along with tornadoes.

Counties in Southwest Mississippi — including Adams, Jefferson and Claiborne — are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions exist that are favorable for severe thunderstorm and tornado development.

Forecasters believe a line of thunderstorms with winds of 60 to 70 mph are possible. Heavy rainfall is also possible, including the possibility of small hail.
