FRANKLINTON, La. — In a game that featured eight players scoring in double figures, the Bowling Green Buccaneers rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to defeat the Trinity Episcopal Saints Monday night.

The Saints were playing their first game of the season due to a schedule built to accommodate the football team’s state championship run. And with the lack of practice came a little bit of rust.

Yet Bowling Green wasn’t exactly able to take advantage of that in the first half. The Buccaneers led the Saints 13-11 after one quarter of play. However, Trinity responded by outscoring Bowling Green 19-14 in the second quarter for a 30-27 halftime lead.

The second half was a different story as the Buccaneers, led by Mac Melveen and Kevin Perry, wore down the Saints. Bowling Green scored 21 points in the third quarter and 20 points in the fourth quarter while Trinity scored just 16 points in each quarter.

Dean King and Russell Perry each scored 13 points for the Buccaneers.

Givonni Dent led Trinity (0-1) with 15 points and Tanner Cage with 13 points. Tip McKenzie added 12 points and L.J. Trimble chipped in with 10 points for the Saints, who play at Centreville today at 7:30 p.m.
