NATCHEZ — After evading police for two days, the Natchez man accused of shooting a woman in a general store parking lot was arrested Sunday.

Montrell Conner, 25, has been wanted in the Friday shooting of Ashley Williams, 28, at the Daisy Street Grocery.

Conner allegedly walked up behind Williams and shot her in the left shoulder with a small caliber handgun before going through her pockets and fleeing the scene on foot.

According to a report at the Natchez Police Department, the victim told investigators she owed Conner money.

Natchez Police Chief Danny White said officers were able to capture Conner at 18 Hunt Circle at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday after receiving a tip.

White said the residence was that of an acquaintance of Conner’s, and police are looking into the possibility of charges against the acquaintance.

White said Conner had not been officially charged Sunday afternoon, but department officials said he will likely face charges of aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Following the shooting, Williams was transported to Natchez Community Hospital and then transferred to a Jackson-area hospital for further treatment.
