NATCHEZ — Natchez Police continued the search Saturday for a man suspected in the Friday shooting of a woman on Daisy Street.
Natchez Police Chief Danny White said police spent the night searching for the suspect, Montrell Conner, 25, and staking out places he was known to associate. But as of Saturday evening, he had not been apprehended.
Police responded to the scene of Daisy Street Grocery, a general store, at 1:19 p.m. Friday, where they found Ashley Williams, 28, of Natchez, with a wound to her left shoulder.
Williams told police the suspect had walked up behind her and shot her with a small caliber handgun before going through her pockets.
According to a police report at the Natchez Police Department, Williams told the police she owed Conner money.
The victim was taken to Natchez Community Hospital and was later transferred to a Jackson-area hospital, White said, where she was improving Saturday afternoon.
NPD Sgt. Ben Hewitt said Friday when the suspect is arrested he could face charges of aggravated assault and robbery.
