Cowboy up for area animals Sat.

Published 12:00 am Thursday, December 2, 2010

The Christmas season is upon us and there are many great events and activities in which to participate in the Miss-Lou.

I hope that you will put this one on your calendar and join us for a great cause. From 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a Cowboy Christmas Animal Affair.

Put on your cowboy hat and boots and head on over to Foster Mound, the home of Roger and Peggy Smith.

The Smith family is opening their doors to help support the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society by raising money for operating costs.

There will be wonderful cowboy cuisine, a silent auction and two cash bars. There is a $25 donation at the door for admission and all proceeds will go to NACHS.

Bring a friend, family members or a neighbor and help us get into the Christmas spirit. All proceeds will go to support the day-to-day needs of the shelter animals.

The humane society remains at or above capacity year-round and the costs associated with caring for our animals is always increasing.

NACHS could use your help. Even if you cannot attend, you may make a donation to the shelter.

Simply mail your check to P.O. Box 549, Natchez, MS, 39120.

Everyone knows that a pet is a wonderful addition to any loving family, and I encourage all of you to consider adopting a companion from the shelter.

We have beautiful dogs, puppies, cats and kittens — purebreds and mixed — who are in need of a forever home.

Drop by the shelter and take a look at these beautiful pets who are patiently waiting. The cost to adopt is minimal; $45 for a dog/puppy, or $35 for a cat/kitten, which covers the cost for spaying/neutering your pet along with vaccinations.

In the meantime, we hope to see you on Saturday at Foster Mound.

Getting there is easy. Go to Washington, and turn left on to Morgantown Road, which runs beside Jefferson College (there is no sign), go one mile and turn right on Foster Mound Road. Go 1.6 miles and Foster Mound will be on the right. There is white fencing and we will have the area lit up for you.

So, mosey on over and join in the fun for a great cause.

We’ll leave a light on for you!

Teresa Busby is on the board of directors for the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society.
