NATCHEZ — The heightened competition level the ACCS Rebel softball team faced in Silliman Institute’s tournament in St. Francisville Saturday culminated in two defeats.
The Rebels won only one of three games it played Saturday, defeating Bowling Green 4-0 and losing to Silliman 8-0 and Carroll Academy 4-1. Head coach Forrest Foster credited the competition for the outcome.
“Silliman is always one of the better teams in the state,” Foster said. “I call them Silliman University. They’re a measuring stick for your team. Carroll is the No. 1 team in Class A ball.”
The Rebels had their chances against Carroll. Foster said the difference in that contest came down to timely hitting. The Rebels failed to produce with the bases loaded in back-to-back innings.
“That’s been our Achilles heel,” Foster said. “That will come around, though.”
Brooke Runnels pitched all three games for ACCS, and Bailey Boyd led the Rebels in hitting against Bowling Green, going 2-for-2 in the 4-0 win.
Following the tournament, the Rebels are 7-5 on the season and will play their next game at Central Hinds at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
