NATCHEZ — Services for Walter “Sonny” Green, 78, of Natchez, who died Friday, July 25, 2014, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, both at the church.
Mr. Green was born the son of Clarence Green and Emma Clark.
He was a retired logger and member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
He was his mother’s only child.
Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Rachel Clark and Walter Clark; two uncles, Timothy Holmes and Leon Clark; and one aunt, Viola James.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Martha Green; six sons, James Lewis, Walter Lewis and wife, Brenda, Clarence Green and wife, Ametra, Tyrone Lewis and Jessie Davis, all of Natchez, and Lawrence Green and wife, Mona, of Montgomery, Ala.; four daughters, Flora Burns, Victoria Bassett and husband, Darryl, Shewanda Watkins and husband, Kenneth, and Juanella Lyles and husband, Williams, all of Natchez; 25 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; eight brothers, David, Dennis, Dwight, Dirk, Darryl, Darren and Darnell Green, Thomas Lindsay and Durrice Green; two sisters, Darcell Green and Theresa Lindsay; one uncle, Thomas Green Sr. of Natchez; four aunts, Julia Harvey of Lathrup Village, Mich., Josephine Mason of Chicago, Roxie Clark and Lottie Clark, both of Sibley; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Carl Lewis, Carlos Lewis, Kenneth Watkins, Devonte Green, Kameron Green and Xavier Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Lewis, Walter Lewis, Clarence Green, Tyrone Lewis, Lawrence Green, Darryl Bassett, Jessie Branch and Kenneth Watkins.
