VIDALIA — The new hotel on the Vidalia Riverfront will be bringing in more than just a place for people to stay.
Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said the lease from Concordia Group LLC of Metairie, La., for the new Marriott TownPlace Suite hotel, which will be located on the south side of Promise Hospital on a 3-acre plot, will require the group to pay Vidalia $40,000 an acre per year.
“There is 6.7 acres total,” he said. “They are looking to build specialty shops on the other 3.7 acres.”
Copeland said the group will sign a 99-year lease with the city.
“The reason we have the lease issues is because we require the group submit architectural plans to be approved by the city,” he said.
With another hotel on the way to the Riverfront, Copeland said he hopes to have a new restaurant along the river in the future.
“We have had people inquire about wanting to build a restaurant by the river,” he said. “Concordia Group LLC did not mention anything about having a restaurant in the new hotel.”
