JONESVILLE — Funeral services for Shelby H. Beasley, 84, who died Friday, July 25, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jonesville with the Rev. Craig James and the Rev. Mickey Hudnall officiating.
Burial will follow at Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.
A reception will follow after the burial at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and 9 a.m. until time of services Monday.
Mr. Beasley was born Nov. 5, 1930, the son of George Shelby and Cora Alice Beasley. He was a lifelong resident of Harrisonburg, and a graduate of Harrisonburg High School and Louisiana State University’s College of Agriculture. He had a lifelong career as a farmer and also worked at the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Department. He was a passionate member of his church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as director of music, deacon and as a Sunday School teacher.
Shelby was the pillar of his family, a devoted father and grandfather. He had an unselfish and forgiving heart, and most enjoyed storytelling with his friends and family gathered around. He will be remembered for his love for God, his sound advice, his country heritage and his passion for the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Jeremy Tyler Bump.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margie Jean McMillin Beasley; three daughters, Charlotte Ann Bump and husband Milo of Tampa; Shelley Jean Edmonds and husband David of Birmingham, Ala., and Margie Marie Butler and husband Glenn of Alexandria; one son, Brent Beasley and wife Cindy of Coppell, Texas; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be given to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in memory of Shelby H. Beasley.
