Vidalia — The Vidalia 11- and 12-year-old all-stars softball team had a rocky start to their weekend in the state tournament, but finished strong before being eliminated by the Bossier City All-stars 11-5 Monday.
Ironically, Bossier was the first team they saw when reaching the tournament, and it was a bad indication of how the tournament could’ve turned out.
Vidalia lost 22-2 in its first game, but instead of letting the loss intimidate them, they just took it as a lesson.
Vidalia won its next three games throughout the weekend beating Lake Charles 25-8, Evangeline 17-1 and Jackson Parish 16-6.
Against Evangeline, Shelby Mason was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts.
Mason came back against Jackson Parish Monday and recorded five strikeouts and went 2-for-3 from the plate. Savannah Spear, Taiuna Haney, Sarah Gray, McKenna Patt and Shelby Cross also had multiple hits with Cross recording a home run and a double.
But Vidalia’s win streak was cut short when it faced the only team it lost to in Bossier Monday evening.
Mason went 2-for-3, but was the only Vidalia player to have multiple hits.
Vidalia head coach Leigh Anne Mason said her team put forth maximum effort over the weekend.
“These girls never gave up,” Mason said. “They played their hearts out, all 12 of them played a lot of good ball.”
