NATCHEZ — Adams County Maintenance Supervisor Allen James Jones was arrested Wednesday for reportedly embezzling from the county.
Jones, 52, 43 Kingston Road, is accused of ordering an air conditioning unit under the pretense that the unit would be placed in a county-owned facility, but Jones reportedly sold the unit to a local church and kept the money for his own use, an attorney general’s office press release said.
The county sheriff’s office made the arrest, and Jones has been released on $5,000 bond. His arraignment is set for Monday.
The case will be handled by the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
County Board of Supervisors President Darryl Grennell said Jones has been placed on administrative leave without pay from his job for several months.
Grennell said the board placed Jones on leave after learning of the embezzlement investigation sometime in September.
Jones has been a county employee for approximately 15 years, Grennell said.
Grennell said he could not comment further on the case for legal reasons because it is an ongoing investigation being handled by the attorney general’s office.
