The stories of several Miss-Lou residents doing great things in and around our community were highlights of last week.

Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a look at some of the other great things that happened.

-Cathedral High School incoming senior Jay Vaughan is hoping to reach the rank of Eagle Scout by completing a community service project in Ferriday. Vaughan has chosen to create a serenity garden behind Riverland Medical Center as a way of reaching the highest rank achievable as a member of the Boy Scouts of America. We thank Vaughan for his service to the community and wish him well as he completes his project.

-Natchez resident Joe Belling is looking to use his experience in the Navy to help other area veterans who might be in the same situation in which Belling found himself when he was discharged and had no idea what benefits were available to him. Belling is the new director of veterans’ service for Adams County and hopes his financial background will help him assist local veterans. We welcome Belling to the position and hope he is able to help many area veterans.

-Will Sandel let his lifeguard training kick in when he heard a young boy yelling for help in the waters of Perdido Beach in Alabama during a recent vacation. Sandel, his sister and a family friend all rushed to the boy’s assistance and eventually were able to pull the child to shore. Sandel, who went through training to become the lifeguard at the Stanton Hall pool, said it was second nature to assist the drowning boy. Sandel’s actions truly speak to his character, and we’re glad he and his family call Natchez home.
