NATCHEZ — One Natchez resident died and another was airlifted with severe injuries after their vehicle struck a tree on Palestine Road Wednesday afternoon.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said deputies responded to the area of 152 Palestine Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after a passerby noticed a vehicle had exited the roadway.

The vehicle, Mayfield said, went off the road and struck a tree on its passenger side.

Antoine Green, 22, of Natchez, was the passenger of the vehicle and died from blunt trauma when the vehicle struck the tree, Adams County Coroner James Lee said.

Mayfield said the driver, who was also a Natchez resident, was airlifted to an area hospital with severe injuries. Mayfield didn’t have information on the driver or an updated medical condition.

“We didn’t have any witnesses who saw what happened, so everything is still under investigation right now,” Mayfield said. “The only thing we have to go on is the driver (of another vehicle) who came up on the scene shortly after it happened.”
