NATCHEZ — Owen Hornstein has a mystery on his hands — who is P.A.M.?
And that mystery? It’s literally on his hand.
Hornstein is hunting for the owner of a South Natchez High School class of 1974 ring.
The gold-toned men’s ring has a blue stone and a SNHS emblem and the word “colonels” on it.
Inside the ring band are the initials P.A.M. It’s small for a man’s ring, possibly a size seven or eight.
Hornstein came into possession of the ring after a fellow oilfield worker — J.D. Barnett — found out he lives in Natchez.
Barnett found the ring on an oilfield location in Shubuta, in Clark County.
“He was walking along one day and kicked a rock, and under that rock was the ring,” Hornstein said.
“When he found out I was from Natchez, he said, ‘I found an old Natchez class ring last year, maybe you can find out who it belongs to.’”
At one time Hornstein thought he had two possible candidates, but after speaking with them, he found the ring didn’t belong to either.
“I would love to find the owner and find out how it was lost,” he said. “It could have been sitting at that oilfield site 200 miles from here for 40 years.”
A glance at the 1974 SNHS yearbook suggests the ring could belong to Paul Allen McAndrews.
Anyone with information about who the ring belongs to can contact Hornstein at 601-597-7386.
