NEW ERA — Funeral services for Violet H. Boyd 90, of New Era, who died Saturday, June 14, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at Camelot Leisure Living, will be 3 p.m. Monday at New Era Baptist Church in New Era with the Rev. Dennis Baker officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be 5 to  8 p.m. today at New Era Baptist Church.

Violet was born Jan. 2, 1924, the daughter of John V. and Elizabeth A. Holland Harper. Violet was a devoted Christian woman and a lifelong member of  New Era Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. She loved her children and family and instilled in them a hard work ethic. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents; her husband William R. Boyd Sr.; brothers R. V. Harper, Pat Harper, John Harper, Carroll Harper, Jay Harper and a sister, Elizabeth Harper.

Survivors include her children William R. Boyd Sr. and wife Pat of New Era and Jim Boyd and wife Gail of Acme.; grandchildren Nikki Rana and husband Ahmad of Raleigh, N.C., Jimmy Boyd and wife Morgan of Monterey and Robert Boyd and wife Amanda of Monterey; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Robert Boyd, Jimmy Boyd, Zach Couch, Ahmad Rana, Mohammad Rana, Trey Boyd and Conner Boyd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Faith Boyd, Ava Boyd, Lacy Boyd, Jehan Rana, Nadia Rana and Noor Rana.
