BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana State Police responded to five fatal accidents over the Christmas weekend.
Troop E, based in Alexandria and covering Concordia Parish, did not respond to any fatal accidents.
The Christmas travel weekend began Thursday and ended Sunday night.
Of the fatal accidents, four of those killed were not wearing seat belts, a state police press release says.
“The New Year is quickly approaching, said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “Troopers will continue aggressive enforcement of seat belt violations and impaired driving during the upcoming New Year’s weekend.
“If you are struggling with a New Year’s resolution, commit to wearing a seat belt. Also, never drive impaired. By partnering with state police, we can save lives in 2011.”
