NATCHEZ — The third time was a charm for Dr. Jeff Anderson and his team as they won the 21st Annual United Way golf scramble at Beau Pre’ Country Club Thursday.
Anderson has won the Concordia Parish Chamber of Commerce golf tournament and the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce tournament earlier this year.
Anderson’s team was tied at 17 under par while the Isle of Capri’s team came in second with a 16 under par.
Anderson’s team consists of Casey Ham, Joe Willis and Tee Cotton.
Energy Drilling came in third place. Gary Farmer won the ball drop, Matthew Hall won the longest drive and Bobby Brown won the closest to the hole award.
Moe LeBlanc, chairman of the board of directors for the Miss-Lou division of the United Way, said the tournament is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers.
“I thought it was a great success,” he said. “Of course, the money stays here in the Miss-Lou, other than administration expenses. We have 13 agencies we donate money to.
“This golf tourney is always one of our biggest fundraisers that we do every year to help these organizations.”
LeBlanc said the community response is great every year, and it shows in the amount of money they are able to raise. LeBlanc estimates they raised $5-6,000 in the tournament.
“For the community to come out and support this event year after year is just awesome,” LeBlanc said. “We’re fortunate to have the turnout and support from the local community.”
Event coordinator Tammy Prince said she gives credit to the 20-plus volunteers for their help with the event.
“We have wonderful people that do volunteer, and all of this happened (Thursday) because of the people who volunteer their time,” Prince said.
The United Way’s next event is the Jambalaya Cook-Off August 28.
