JACKSON (AP) — The state Court of Appeals has upheld the dismissal of the post-conviction petition of a Natchez man sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting at an Adams County sheriff’s deputy in 2006.

In 2007, Anthony Donnell Williams guilty in circuit court to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and other charges. In his post-conviction petition, Williams attacked what he considered a faulty indictment. An Adams County denied the petition in 2009. The Appeals Court upheld the ruling Tuesday.

Court records show Williams allegedly knocked down a deputy to the ground and tried to shoot him with a handgun, which misfired. Williams got into his car, led the deputies on a chase and was captured after deputies shot out a tire, according to the court record.
