FAYETTE — A Monroe man was charged with kidnapping Monday after reportedly taking his baby from the child’s mother.
Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker said Terry Dwayne Kidd, 35, traveled from Monroe to Jefferson County Monday for a custody hearing that was canceled.
Walker said Kidd does not have custodial rights to the baby. The mother, he said, has full custody.
Kidd then went to his baby’s mother’s house, where he allegedly took the baby from her.
“He told her he was taking his baby back, took the child from her and got in his vehicle,” Walker said.
The child’s mother was able to give police a tag number and vehicle description, and the vehicle was stopped in Port Gibson by Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
“We were able to get the baby back without any problems, and the child has since been returned to the mother,” Walker said.
Three other people traveling with Kidd were also arrested. Jessie Darnell Lawrence, 29; Tammy Sakura Carr, 39, and Roneish Danshell McQuay, 21, all of Monroe, were charged with accessory to kidnapping.
