NATCHEZ — Former Washington Nationals centerfielder Nook Logan will bring his baseball clinic, “Catch, Throw, Hit and Run” to his hometown of Natchez July 12 through July 16.

The 1998 Natchez High School standout said he’s been teaching schools and camps the past two years, but he saved his biggest clinic to date for Natchez.

“I’ve had some requests to do my first big one elsewhere, but I turned down offers because I wanted to do the first big one in Natchez,” Logan said.

Logan’s clinic will travel throughout Mississippi with plans to go to Brookhaven, Vicksburg and surrounding Jackson areas. But before Logan takes his “baby” on the road, he wants to let Natchez youth know he came from the same place they did, and if they work hard, their dreams are attainable.

Mirroring former mentors, Logan hopes to generate excitement for the youth around the community the same way locals Robert Ogden and Vincent “Bull” Washington, who were local Dixie Youth coaches, did for him when he played little league.

“Those two guys kept me at the park,” Logan said. “Nobody can really repeat what they did or duplicate what they were. I just want to leave my imprint on the community. Anytime a kid tells me how they did after a game, it makes me feel like I’m making a difference.”

Over the course of five days, Logan will teach the fundamentals of baseball, including speed and agility drills. Ages 12 and under will workout at Duncan Park from 9 a.m. until noon, while ages 13 and up will meet at Adams County Christian School from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

Those wanting to register may bring $200 to Sports Center in Natchez or to Hometown Sports in Vidalia. Logan said the limit will be 200 participants, and the last day to register will be July 11.
