NATCHEZ — Beat the summer heat this weekend or bask in the outdoor glory with a variety of events being hosted throughout the Miss-Lou.

Sunny skies are forecast for a majority of the weekend ahead, with temperatures expected to reach into the 90s by Saturday.

Auto and bike show

Custom Rides will host an auto and bike show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the rear parking lot of the Natchez Mall.

Donations will be accepted to benefit the T.M. Jennings Baseball League.

All custom cars, trucks and bikes are welcome.

Food, music and games for children will be available.

Wine 101

ArtsNatchez will host its second adult wine education class, Wine 101, at 7 p.m. Saturday at 425 Main St.

During the program, participants will learn about the characteristics of six different varietals of wine.

Participants will learn how to speak the language of wine and find out how wine is made.

Discussions on particular winemaking techniques for each type of wine will also take place.

During the basic wine tasting class, participants will discover how to use their nose and palates to determine and describe the basic underlying flavors of wine.

Various cheeses, crackers, fruit and chocolate will accompany the wine courses.

Tickets are $50 per person or $90 for a couple and must be purchased in advance.

“The Portage of the Cross”

The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians will host an illustrated talk by Jim Barnett titled “The Portage of the Cross: A Forgotten French Colonial Landmark on the Lower Mississippi River” at 6:30 p.m. today in the museum auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public.

Kitten adoption day

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a kitten and cat adoption day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez Mall near the theater entrance, Stine Lumber on U.S. 61 South and Tractor Supply Co. on U.S. 61 North.

The price to adopt one or two kittens is $35, which includes spaying or neutering.

The Kinders

The Concordia Parish Library will present an educational concert by The Kinders at 10:15 a.m. at the Ferriday Library and 2 p.m. at the Vidalia Library today.

The group includes singer and songwriter Brian Kinder who, along with his wife Terri, perform concerts for children across the country.

The group’s material consists of good music, humor and lots of audience participation.

The event is free and open to the public.

New Hope rodeo

New Hope Baptist Church’s youth department will host a rodeo fundraiser Saturday on Muddy Fork Road.

Gates open at 4 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 6 p.m.

Events include calf roping and goat roping, among others.

Admission is $5 per person.

Movie night

First Baptist Church and Celebrate Recovery will present a free movie, “Home Run” at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Vidalia Conference and Convention Center.

The PG-13 movie follows a pro baseball player with a substance abuse problem who is forced into a rehabilitation program in his hometown and ends up coaching a Little League team.
