FERRIDAY — Services for Alex James Melancon, 86, of Ferriday, who died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Sklar officiating.

Burial will follow in Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Melancon was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Ferriday, the son of Willie and Bertha Picou Melancon.

He was retired from General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Harrison Melancon; four sons Alex J. Melancon Jr. and Vernon Melancon, both of Los Angeles, Michael Melancon of New Orleans and Andre Spillers of Flint, Mich.; two daughters, Fannie D. Smith of Ferriday, and Janice Melancon of New Orleans; one brother, Milton Melancon of Ferriday; one sister, Viola Washington of Baton Rouge; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
