NATCHEZ — A Green Wave of offense left the Rebels on the short end Monday night as Cathedral defeated Adams County Christian 8-1.
The aggressive offensive attack of the Green Wave resulted in great field position for Cathedral. Throughout most of the match, Cathedral held the ball in Rebel territory or at midfield.
For the Green Wave, Austin Walker, Kyle Bradley and Brent Gaude each scored two goals. Jake McKinney and Cavin Skidmore scored the other two goals for the Green Wave.
ACCS’s lone goal came with 7:35 left in the second half by Blake Smith, with Tanner Martin on the assist.
“Overall, we’ve come a long way since the start of the season. We held our own the first 20 minutes. Our hats are off to Cathedral, they are top-notch,” Allgood said.
ACCS only allowed two goals in those first 20 minutes of the match. Toward the end of the first half and the beginning of the second was when most of Cathedral’s scoring took place.
Gaudé scored the last goal of the first half with seven minutes remaining. Cathedral then managed three second half goals really early. Gaudé (34:05) opened up the scoring followed by Walker (31:06) and Bradley (18:35).
In addition to taking good shots, the Green Wave also showcased good passing skills.
“We kept our composure and moved the ball well,” Cathedral assistant aoach Paul Burns said. “We played well for not playing a game since before Christmas break. Of our eight goals, six of them were assisted. That speaks for itself,”
Cathedral’s last goal came from Skidmore with 5:40 left in the match on a breakaway.
Despite allowing eight goals, freshman goalkeeper Dylan Galbreath made some athletic saves that kept the score from stretching any further.

ACCS’s single score was by Mollie Simpson.
“It was a good game. We’re not developing a rivalry, we’re just looking for some cross-town action,” Cathedral girls head coach David Gaudé said.
Cathedral will host Wesson on Friday night at Devereaux Stadium. The varsity girls will play at 6 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7:30.
