Our world is truly filled with sick individuals, people that years ago someone might have dismissed as simply having a “screw loose.”

The latest case in point is the almost unfathomable news that a political blogger allegedly sneaked into a nursing home and took photographs of the 72-year-old wife of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran. Mrs. Cochran apparently has late-stage dementia and has lived in the nursing home for many years.

The blogger, apparently, sought to either gain personal attention or somehow use the video to disparage Cochran, who is embroiled in an increasingly nasty campaign with a young challenger, state Sen. Chris McDaniel.

Although the blogger, who we’re not naming to avoid giving him more undue attention, is innocent until proven guilty, the police felt they had enough evidence to charge him and hold him on a $100,000 bond.

Such political oddballs have been around for years and years. Unfortunately, the Internet gives them the ability to rapidly spew their demented thoughts and ideas to a wide audience.

The blogger apparently is a supporter of McDaniel’s campaign, but McDaniel and his campaign have denounced the alleged actions of the supporter.

We take McDaniel at his word.

Hopefully, investigators will seek out and prosecute anyone who may have either helped the blogger or had prior knowledge of his alleged actions.

Regardless of one’s political bend, at the very least, Cochran’s wife deserves a little dignity and privacy.

If the man is found guilty of trouncing her rights, we hope they lock him up and throw away the key.
