FERRIDAY — The Ferriday Board of Aldermen will have a public hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday to address bingo and annexation, among other things.

Four items are scheduled to be open for discussion during the hearing, with the first being the annexation of area outside of the city limits.

Mayor Glen McGlothin mentioned in the December aldermen meeting that Ferriday would make efforts to expand the city limits in 2011.

The second item up for discussion will be video bingo in the town of Ferriday.

An ordinance to allow video bingo machines in the city limits was previously passed by the board of aldermen, and later vetoed by McGlothin, who said the ordinance did not have enough specifics on how the operation will be run.

The board of aldermen later overruled the mayor’s veto, and the item will be once again be up for a vote at Tuesday’s meeting after the public hearing.

The third issue of for discussion during the public hearing will be the payment of $129,000 in legal fees for former Mayor Sammy Davis.

Davis was convicted of malfeasance in office, but that conviction was later overturned. Louisiana law allows for the compensation of legal fees of an elected official who proves themselves innocent of charges related to their conduct in office.

The final item up for discussion will be the revitalization of downtown Ferriday.

McGlothin and Ferriday have made efforts to bring more business and activities to Ferriday, and are continuing to try and bring more to the town.
