FERRIDAY— A three-person search committee will begin reviewing applications next week turned in for the position of police chief for the Town of Ferriday.
One of the seven applications is from Derrick Freeman, who took over as interim police chief in late April after Mayor Gene Allen fired the former police chief citing a mounting number of unsolved burglaries.
Richard Madison, who was appointed to police chief in 2012 following Allen’s election, was fired after Allen said there were nearly 16 unsolved burglary cases in Ferriday.
Allen asked the search committee Tuesday evening during the monthly Board of Aldermen meeting to set a time to begin reviewing all the applications.
The search committee consists of alderman Johnnie Brown, alderwoman Gloria Lloyd and town clerk Tamiko Hines.
The committee said they would meet Tuesday to being reviewing the applications with the goal of allowing Allen to appoint the new chief at the board’s July meeting.
Freeman said he was interested in the full-time position and looked forward to the interview process.
