NATCHEZ — For the second time in less than a week, two downtown buildings were defaced with obscene drawings and words.

The owners of Dimples Lounge on Main Street filed a police report Tuesday after they discovered an obscene message written in paint on a window of the nightclub.

The message included a phallic drawing and a racial slur.

Fred Marsalis, who does promotion work for Dimples, said he was disappointed when he saw the message.

“Fifty years removed from the Civil Rights Movement, and we still have to go through these type of obstacles,” he said.

Dimples, as well as the Ameriprise office and vacant High Cotton building on Main Street, were also vandalized last week.

A vacant building on South Union Street between Main and Franklin streets was also defaced earlier this week.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said police department is beefing up its patrol downtown in an effort to catch the vandal or vandals.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should contact Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.

Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $1,000 for a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.
