WEST POINT — Services for Mary Drake Swoope, 69, who died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Darlington Oakes in Verona, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, EPC with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Robinson Funeral Home in West Point.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Swoope was born Aug. 8, 1941, in Vicksburg, the daughter of the Alexander Alford Batton and Isabella Person Drake. She was a retired teacher from the Lowndes County school. She was a member of the Board of Director of MEA, a member of Aberdeen Junior Auxiliary, West Point Pilot Club and a member of the DAR in Port Gibson.

Mrs. Swoope attended Southwestern College in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated from Mississippi Southern University and received a master’s degree in gifted education at MUW.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alexander Alford Batton Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Edward A. Swoope; one son, James Prowell Swoope and wife, Jennifer, all of West Point; one granddaughter, Mary Ray Swoope; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Sandy Batton, Gib Reid, Trip Hairston, Keith McBrayer, Gray Swoope, Tim Wilson, Phillip Hankins and John Cunningham.

Memorials may be made to the West Point Animal Shelter Humane Society or Chamberlin-Hunt Academy in Port Gibson.
