NATCHEZ — Trinity’s Joseph Vinson has accepted a scholarship to play football with Louisiana College next season as a defensive end.
The Ferriday native was a defensive lineman and offensive lineman on a Saints’ team that took home the state championship last year, and he’s excited about continuing his football-playing career.
“Ever since I was little, playing at the next level has become a dream,” Vinson said.
Vinson will look to redshirt next season to try and add muscle to his frame. His strength in high school was always his suddenness at defensive line.
“I was always able to get leverage on the defensive line because of my initial burst,” Vinson said.
New Trinity head coach Zach Rogel was a recruiter at Mississippi College while Vinson played at Trinity, and Rogel said even though he didn’t coach Vinson, he knew about him through recruiting him to play at Mississippi College.
“I’ve watched the films numerous times and it’s hard to misjudge him on film,” Rogel said. “His endless motor and his passion were evident. He plays football the right way, and that made him special.”
Vinson also played basketball at Trinity. He is the son of Ida Tate and Joseph Vinson.
