FERRIDAY — Dr. Jeff Anderson can attest that it has been a good week as he goes into the Easter weekend with two Chamber of Commerce golf tournament championships.
Anderson and his team, Casey Ham and Kevin Smith Jr., won the Concordia Parish Chamber of Commerce golf tournament at Panola Woods Country Club Thursday with a score of 57.
Last week, Anderson’s team won the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament at Duncan Park with a score of 55, however, the four-man team won by just one stroke in a close match.
At Panola Woods, Anderson’s team beat out second place Gillon Group and third place Babe Huff- Wagoner Gravel by four strokes, as they both tallied a 61.
Though the second and third place winners tied, the placement was determined by the team with the best score at a predetermined hole (Hole 2).
Tournament director Josh Wilson said he was pleased with the participation this year, as 19 teams came out on a chilly day.
“We filled up our teams fairly quickly, we actually had teams we had to turn away,” Wilson said.
Wilson said he wasn’t surprised the Anderson team won the tournament, as Anderson is known for gathering an elite squad.
Anderson said when Wilson asked him to gather a team for the tournament, he knew who his No. 1 guy would be.
“When I was asked to put a team together, I asked my guy Casey Ham first,” Anderson said.
Ham was also on Anderson’s Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce winning team.
Anderson said his team stepped up on a course they aren’t familiar with.
“Everybody played well,” Anderson said. “We had a bunch of Par 4s, we had three eagles, then we Par 5’d on (hole) No. 2 twice.”
Anderson said he hopes to keep going strong with several other golf tournaments coming in the near future such as the Joe Fortunato Celebrity Golf Classic May 3.
Other winners of the Concordia Parish Chamber of Commerce golf tournament include Cathy Hinson and Al Conn for closest to the hole, and Jeffrey Ferguson for the longest drive.
