FAYETTE — Services for Sidney “Slim” Jackson, 83, of Fayette, who died Saturday, April, 12, 2014, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Poplar Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Jackson was born Oct. 16, 1930, the son of Willie Jackson and Sarah Whitney Jackson the second eldest of 13 children.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War.

He has worked with Chromium Corporation in Chicago, General Electric in Jackson and retired in 1992 from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg.

He was a member of the Poplar Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church family in Fayette, a member of the committe to restore the historical Poplar Hill School House, where he attended school until the eighth grade.

He served as a memeber of the American Legion Tyner Ford Post 213 and was also a member of the Brown and Washington Hunting Club.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward “Pot-Tee” Jackson and Willie “George” Jackson Jr; and three sisters, Jessie Lee “Johnnie” Jackson, Sarah Clara Littleton and Adeline “Bright” Jackson.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carrie Montgomery Jackson; one son, Sidney Jerome Jackson and wife, Emma LeBouef, of Carriere; one daughter, Sidra Carol Jackson Burns of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Hannah Jackson and Brianna Jackson, of Natchez, Alaya Burns and Cody Burns, of Vicksburg; two step-grandchildren, Logan Auter of Carriere and Clayton Auter and wife, Kyungmi, of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, Burnell “Ned” Jackson and wife, Georgia, of Fayette, Jeffey D. Jackson and Bernard Jackson, both of Chicago; four sisters, Lucille Sampson and husband, Wendell, of Fayette, Veola “Doll” Jacob, Juanita “Sis” Johnson and Walrea “Sally” Flennoy and husband, Wayne, all of Chicago.
