NATCHEZ — A Relay for Life golf tournament with proceeds going towards the American Cancer Society will take place Friday at Beau Pre’ Country Club in Natchez.

Because the event is being held on Good Friday, barbeque and fish will be served at lunch at noon before the 1 p.m. tee off.

Tee Cotten, who is organizing the event, became deeply involved with the Relay for Life after his brother died from cancer two years ago.

“After seeing all of the great charities, it hit me last year that we were raising all of this money and nobody was taking advantage of the golf course,” Cotten said.

Cotten is jumping on the opportunity this year, and he already has 21 teams signed up to play in the 2-man scramble.

Because of the community’s generosity, the event is gaining multiple sponsorships.

“The community is just always coming through in spades,” Cotten said. “We keep getting more and more donations and more corporate sponsors. The more money we can bring in, the more we can turn into the American Cancer Society.”

For $100, golfers will be able to participate in the scramble and eat lunch. To sponsor a hole, one must pay $150.

To participate for the event, those interested may signup directly at Beau Pre’s front desk or call Cotten at 601-431-1143 or email him at teecotten@gmail.com.

The Miss-Lou Relay for Life’s lofty fundraising work has garnered several awards for the event in recent years, including being ranked fifth nationally in fundraising per capita and regularly placing in the top five for total fundraising in the event’s district.

This year’s event will be May 2 at the Vidalia Riverfront.
