VICKSBURG — The Cathedral Green Wave saw a five-run lead and the MHSAA Region 7-1A championship disappear over a span of four innings as the St. Aloysius Flashes rallied for a 9-6 win Friday night.

Cathedral took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the third inning when St. Aloysius started its comeback with four runs in that frame to make it a 6-5 ball game. The Flashes took the lead for good with a two-run rally in the bottom of the fourth and added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Derek Dolan and Patrick Murphy led the Flashes’ 10-hit attack as they both went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. Craig Bradley and Pate Shirley led the Green Wave at the plate as each of them went 2-for-3 and Zach Flattmann had a double.

With the loss, Cathedral (13-5, 4-2) finished second in Region 7-1A. The Green Wave play host to Natchez High today at 1 p.m.

Trinity Episcopal sweeps Tallulah

TALLULAH, La. — The Trinity Episcopal Saints did what they had to do to keep their slim playoff hopes alive with a doubleheader sweep of the Tallulah Academy Trojans in MAIS District 7-A action Friday afternoon, winning Game 1 11-1 in five innings and taking Game 2 in dramatic comeback fashion 10-9.

In the first game, Quinton Logan threw a complete-game no-hitter and he helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with a double. Cade Wells, who went 3-for-4 picked a good time to hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot during which the Saints scored five runs to enact the 10-run mercy rule in the top of the fifth inning.

The same could not be said for the second game. Tallulah Academy had its way with starting pitcher Stewart Mallory, who lasted four innings and gave up seven runs.

Cole Switzer entered in relief and allowed two runs in his two innings of work. Both of those runs occurred in the top of the fifth and that gave the Trojans what should have been a commanding 9-2 lead.

But Trinity, the home team in the second game, started its rally with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 9-4. Then the Saints scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-9 lead. Logan pitched the top of the seventh and kept the Trojans off the scoreboard. Switzer was credited with the win and Logan got the save.

Trinity Episcopal (5-6, 5-3) will need some help to make the postseason.

Franklin County 19, Hazlehurst 2

HAZLEHURST — Ethan Verdin allowed just two hits in three innings and Derick Brumfield went 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run and five runs batted in as the Franklin County Bulldogs took care of the Hazlehurst Indians 19-2 in four innings Friday afternoon in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game.

Franklin County was only up 2-1 at the end of the first inning before scoring six runs in the top of the second inning to make it an 8-1 game. Hazlehurst scored one run in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 8-2 before the Bulldogs exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Verdin allowed two runs, none earned, struck out seven and walked three and he went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. Graham Cowart had a double and two RBI while Bernard Selmon went 2-for-2 with a triple.

Franklin County (11-6, 3-2) plays at Enterprise today at 2 p.m.
