NATCHEZ — Services for Maston Louis “Bill” Tickell Jr., 86, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edwin Temple officiating, assisted by Bryant Reed and Jean Walsworth.

A private burial will be at Fayette City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Tickell was born March 28, 1924, in Vicksburg, the son of Maston Lewis and Amelia Tickell. He was a graduate of Natchez High School, attended North Western University in Evanston, Ill., for two years and Philadelphia Textile Institute.

Mr. Tickell spent 35 years as a textile broker in Los Angeles before returning to Natchez for retirement. He served as president of the Natchez Community Hospital Volunteers and was a member for 17 years.

He was also a veteran of World War II and served in the 20th Army Air Force, 498th Bombardment Group, Saipan. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and three Bronze Service Stars and a Meritorious Service Unit Award.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Shirley Rose Tickell.

Survivors include one sister, Ann Bragg of Arkadelphia, Ark.; one special cousin, Grete Matera of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Roanne Milton and Anna Rose Davis; three granddaughters, Betsy Mosby, Anna Sandel and Rebecca Grantham; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Blough, Henry Watts, Jim Milton, Sim Mosby, Joe Ernst, the Rev. Clifton Marvel and the Rev. Michael Hoggatt.

Honorary pallbearers will be volunteers of Natchez Community Hospital, Billy Simmons and Marion Stewart.
