NATCHEZ — Detroit Lions player Don Carey will give a motivational speech at 11 a.m. Friday at Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Natchez campus titled “Action Changes Things.”
The speech will take place in the Nelson Multi-Purpose Room, and admission is free and open to the public.
Director of Student Affairs Brett Brinegar said everyone in the community is invited to meet Carey to hear his personal experiences and advice on what it takes to reach one’s full potential in life.
“(Carey) is the sort of person that all students can relate to,” Brinegar said. “They will find his experiences very interesting. He worked very hard to get ahead in life, and he wants to come and spread his experiences with us.”
The strong safety was raised in Hampton Roads, Va., where he currently resides.
In 2009, Carey received his bachelor’s degree in building construction technology from Norfolk State University and shortly after was drafted to the NFL.
He has spent the last six years playing in the NFL — two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is currently in his fourth year with the Detroit Lions.
He is the founder and CEO of DCIM: Don Carey International Ministries, a A para-church organization geared toward preaching the Gospel of Christ with a hope of Biblical repentance and discipleship.
