NATCHEZ — Services for the Rev. John W. Scott Sr., 82, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John W. Scott Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Scott was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Natchez, the son of Isadora Wilbert and Hattie Eames and raised by Henry W. Scott and Katie Percy Scott.
He was educated in Adams County and graduated from St. Francis High School. He also attended Natchez College.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a Baptist and member of Christian Hope Baptist Church. He was the former pastor of King Solomon Baptist Church, served as the youth minister for Zion Flower Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church and Christian Hope Baptist Church. He was also involved with area churches for many years.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Orlando Scott; and siblings, Ruby Eames, Barbara Chatman, Clionel Wilbert and the Rev. Samuel Dunn.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Seals Scott; two sons, John W. Scott Jr. and wife, Ethel, of Natchez, and Jose Scott and wife, Yvette, of Morrow, Ga.; two daughters, Carolyn Newell of Natchez, and Roslyn Brown and husband, Alton, of Jonesboro, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford R. Wilbert; two sisters, Gwendolyn Phillips and Lynetta Wilbert, both of Baton Rouge; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a number of relatives and friends and the Christian Hope Baptist Church Family.
