VIDALIA — Services for Anderson “Mackie” “Smitty” Smith, 78, of Vidalia, who died Monday, March 17, 2014, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Young’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jarrod Bottley officiating.
Burial will follow in Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Natchez, the son of George and Olivia Wilson Smith.
He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1957.
He was employed at Lewis Grocery Store for many years in Vidalia and he was a carpenter.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Otis and Willie D. Smith; and two sisters, Katherine Mitchell and Olivia Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Redmond Smith; two sons, Reginald Smith Sr. and wife, Trina and Kirk Johnson, all of Vidalia; three daughters, Brenda Smith and Irene Payne and husband, Clifford, all of Vidalia, and Anita Dean and husband, Lonnie, of Natchez; one brother, George Smith Jr. and wife, Ruby, of Brentwood, Calif.; four sisters, Lois Ellis and husband, Jessie, of Durante, Calif., Virta Hawkins and husband, Cumcy and Voncil Phillips, all of Los Angeles, and Joyce Smith of Gardena, Calif.; one god-brother, Nathaniel Williams of Vidalia; a close cousin, Louis Williams of Natchez; 28 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
