Cathedral softball collects 11 hits, win

BROOKHAVEN — Mackenzie Watts went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and Tori Edwards was 2-for-4 with two RBIs as the Cathedral Lady Green Wave held on for a 9-6 win over the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets Thursday afternoon.
After trailing Enterprise 2-1 at the end of the first inning, Cathedral scored eight of the game’s next nine runs over the next four and a half innings to grab a 9-3 lead, which started with a four-run rally in the top of the second inning.
McKenzie Milligan was 2-for-3 and Baylee Graning went 2-for-4 for the Lady Green Wave, which finished with 11 hits. However, none of them went for extra bases.
Elizabeth Smith got the win despite giving up six runs, two earned, on eight hits and four walks with three strikeouts in a complete-game performance. Cathedral (3-2) has two games Saturday at the Franklin County Tournament — first against Vicksburg at 10:15 a.m. and then against host Franklin County at 3:15 p.m.
Franklin County 9, Brookhaven 6
BROOKHAVEN — Macy Brabham went 3-for-4 with a double and a key three-run home run in the top of the third inning as the Franklin County High School Lady Bulldogs defeated the Brookhaven High School Lady Panthers 9-6 Tuesday afternoon.
Brabham’s home run gave Franklin County a 4-1 lead before Brookhaven cut the lead to 4-3 heading into the top of the fifth inning. That’s when the Lady Bulldogs struck for three runs to go ahead 7-3. After the Lady Panthers made it a 7-6 game in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the seventh.
Emilee Wallace gave up three runs, none earned, on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks for Franklin County (3-5, 1-0), which faces Cathedral at 3:15 p.m. Saturday and Enterprise at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Franklin County Tournament.
Buckeye 8, Vidalia 0
DEVILLE, La. — Mikayla Brown was a nightmare for Vidalia High School both on the mound and at the plate in leading the Buckeye High School Lady Panthers to an 8-0 win over the Lady Vikings in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Thursday afternoon.
Brown got the win after holding Vidalia to just three hits while striking out 15 batters and walking just two. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate as part of Buckeye’s 13-hit attack. Brittany Derbonne and Shae Schreckengost each hit home runs for the Lady Panthers.
Taylor Rodgers took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts in four innings. Cassie Gonzales went 2-for-3 for Vidalia (4-6, 1-3), which takes on LaSalle at 3:30 p.m. today and Avoyelles Public Charter at 7:30 p.m. today at the Jena Tournament.
