NATCHEZ — Services for Levi Marsaw III, 81, of Natchez, who died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, in New Orleans, will be at noon Saturday at Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Johnny Ray officiating.

Burial will be Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Marsaw was born June 13, 1929, in Natchez, the son of Levi Marsaw Jr. and Alberta Collins Marsaw.

Levi was employed by International Paper Company for 45 years. He lead the charge in getting blacks registered to vote throughout southwest Mississippi during the 60s. Among his many business ventures included the Savoy Grill, Club Delisa, Texaco Station, Cab Company, Afro Lounge, Hayes Café and Marsaw Café.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Claudia; one sister, Cordelia; and three brothers, Robert Lee, Sam and Fayette.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Marsaw Herbert of New Orleans; one son, Gregory Marsaw and wife, Brenda, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Roosevelt and wife, Annette, of Hazlehurst and Henry Lee and wife, Minnie, of Chicago; one sister, Martha Rose Cain; four grandchildren, Diallo Herbert of New Orleans, Kimberly Askew and husband, Clint, of Carrollton, Texas, Chioke and wife, Corey, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Bridgette Marsaw of Woodbridge, Va.; and two aunts, Dorothy Camper and husband, LT, and Martha Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Roosevelt Marsaw Jr., Robert Lee Marsaw, Roger Griffin, Paul Hollins, Charles Marsaw and Terry Marsaw.
